Overview
The driving concept for our master plan is the Voronoi pattern. The pattern draws from our form-finding exercise where we created physical and digital iterations of the Voronoi. The pattern also draws on our precedent study which involved biomimetics. The pattern can be found in natural organisms such as dry earth, leaves and giraffe skin.
The Voronoi pattern was used to divide the site into its various zones, creating a series of interconnecting ‘pods’ that facilitate the circulation of the site. The pattern was further utilised in the building form, facade and as a structural element for the bridges.
The marine research and exhibition centre/boat workshop embraces the rich history of the waterfront site. The cladding is carefully organised, responding to the existing site conditions, such as the wind, sun and views and is designed to blend in with the landscape.
